Today’s power move is hard even for me. Let’s be honest many of the power moves are tough. That’s why they are power moves. But today’s Power move is inspired by the motion picture Wonder Woman. Don’t worry. There are no spoiler alerts. I promise.
The bottom line is that wonder woman is a person of action. Every time she heard no, she questioned it. Her questions were so on point that no one could argue with her logic even when she was a child.
Half way into the film, she was presented with a dilemma and again was confronted by no, no, no. You can’t. You shouldn’t. It’s a bad idea. But wonder woman has conviction and a moral compass. She shunned the naysayers and did what she knew she was meant to do. She did what she believed was right. She moved forward when everyone was imploring her to go left, right or back. As a result, she succeeded in what she set out to do inspiring even those who told her it would be too hard.
Sometimes in our professional lives we are confronted with naysayers, haters and doubters. And that’s ok. We should use that negative energy as fuel and not as something that can deflate us. And let’s say, but some stroke of bad luck, that you were wrong. That the idea you were so passionate about did not pan out – that is even less of an excuse to quit or feel sorry for yourself. Sure, take a moment to lick your wounds – but only a moment! You can’t possibly ONLY have ONE idea up your sleeve. Or maybe the original idea just needs some revision and tweaking. Use failure as data not a reason to give up!
I know wonder woman is a fictional character. But the moral of the story is a strong one. Find a wonder woman in your field that can be a role model. I bet you she doesn’t often take no for an answer.
