Can something be a power move if it’s supposed to go without saying? For example, grooming. Shouldn’t you be grooming no matter what? Does grooming make you stand out above the crowd or is it a staple that should be practiced by everyone?
Well I decided that today’s power move is indeed going to be about grooming. I guess if you aren’t already taking care of these things youa re being noticed for hte wrong reasons. So if you start to reverse that, then you will certainly start to get noticed finally, for the right reasons.
Ok, so the first tip about grooming…buy an iron! Ironing and pressing go a long way. Showing up to work wrinkled has I don’t care written all over it. And trust me, we can tell the difference between it’s wrinkled because it’s supposed to be that way and wrinkled because it was at the bottom of the pile on the floor.
The second grooming tip is all about the hair. It doesn’t matter if your hair is long short, curly, straight, natural or processed. Make sure it’s neat. Make sure it’s clean. Make sure you are groomed. Gentleman, I love the beard as much as the next gilr, but let’s keep it clean, trimmed and tidy. We don’t need to know what you had for lunch.
Finally, let’s talk a little about hygiene. Not always the most comfortable conversation. But a little deodorant goes a long way. And yo might want to stay away from fragrances If you must, one or two pumps should suffice. But if you are going to an interview, skip it. You just never know who is allergic to what or just plain sensitive to scents.
OK, so that was the PSA for the week. Not sure if this fully qualifies as a power move, but there you have it. It had to be done. #PowerMoveMonday #SolutionsNotResolutions. You got this!
