How Casual Is Casual Friday?
How casual is casual Friday really? The thing to consider is your industry. Is there a dress code? If not, does that mean you should make it up as you go along? The answer is NO!
Even if casual Friday consists of jeans and sneakers, there are still some guidelines you should put into place for yourself…like always be clean and pressed. Your jeans should never have holes even if they came that way and they should never cut off your circulation. A casual look can still be empowering and stylish.
Never wear sweats, booty shorts, basketball shorts or anything see-through or cleavage bearing. No way to mid-riffs, tights or flip flops and wearing a baseball cap may not go over well. We don’t want to see your crotch or your underwear so buy a belt. As a matter of fact, if your job is highly casual, try kicking it up a notch and show up in slacks or something more business casual. And if you do need a relaxed casual day once in a while, make sure you have something appropriate hanging behind your door in case the president of your college or company calls you for an emergency meeting or an important client walks through your door. This is about always being prepared and not stunting your creative fashion sense.
Three things can happen when you walk into a room.
- No one notices you.
- Everyone notices you for the wrong reasons.
- Everyone notices you, steps out of your way, and asks who is that and how can I meet him/her?
