PMM 15: HIGHLIGHTING YOUR ACCOMPLISHMENTS
I can’t tell you how many times I hear people say that they have a hard time talking about what they are good at or what’ they’ve achieved because they’re humble.
Please I can’t with the humility thing anymore. Of course it has it’s place but not to the point where you are resenting your boss or hating your job b/c no one is noticing. Listen we are all busy with our stuff and we don’t always have time to notice yours. So if you want something done, you have to do it yourself.
So how do you get noticed without seeming like your bragging?
Easy. Have regular meetings with your boss. Put your work week into context when providing updates and make sure you insert how those tasks would not have gotten done without your work and that of your team. Use your humility to temper the arrogance but don’t be so modest. Being able to plan an event that gets over 100 students to attend is no small feat.
Don’t wait for your yearly evaluations to share how fabulous you are. If you are working on something philantrhopic that isn’t work related, share that when your boss asks you how your weekend was or while your’e having a casual convo. Come on you know how to work these things in. Consider inviting your colleagues & even your boss to participate in your church’s soup kitchen or a breast cancer walk.
Finally stop playing around and nominate yourself for some professional awards. Ask your boss for a letter of recommendation if appropriate. But when you win the award make sure you share the announcement with him or her. If it’s a professional organization, it’s likely that your boss will already hear about it.
Remember it’s not bragging if you back it up. –Muhammad Ali #powermovemonday #solutionsnotresolutions You got this!
