Gallup Strengths for Achieving Success

USING GALLUP STRENGTHS TO ACHIEVE SUCCESS

“There is no more effective way to empower people than to see each person in terms of his or her strengths.”

– Don O. Clifton, Father of Strengths Psychology and Inventor of Clifton Strengths

About three years ago, I was introduced to the Gallup Strengthsfinder inventory at work. We had a new vice president and she wanted to provide a professional development workshop that would allow her new team to get to know her and she us. The team was also able to get to know one another through a strengths-based lens. The facilitator did a great job and I haven’t been the same since.

Gallup Strengthsfinder introduced me to a new way of thinking about myself, my colleagues and my loved ones. After taking the inventory, I learned about my top 5 strengths: woo, includer, communication, ideation and arranger. Though I was not surprised about what my strengths were, the inventory and the training provided me with a new vocabulary and a new approach to thinking about myself and who I am. I learned that developing my strengths was far more beneficial to my personal and professional progress and thought leadership than obsessing about my weaknesses.

My strengths really do paint a picture of who I am and how I operate:

Woo – Winning others over is what I do. I am an off-the-charts extrovert with a knack for quality small talk (an oxymoron for most). I walk into a room and make it my own.

Includer – I was the kid in school who never let anyone sit alone in the cafeteria. Relatively popular, I was more like the girl next door…not an athlete or a cheerleader but friends with both. Not the valedictorian but smart enough to graduate with honors and be friends with the nerds.

Communication/ – Probably my favorite strength, ideation allows me to be my most creative. It’s a strategic strength that makes me a good event planner and combine with my woo and communication, it allows my events to be epic.

IdeationWinning others over is what I do. I am an off-the-charts extrovert with a knack for quality small talk (an oxymoron for most). I walk into a room and make it my own.

This seemingly random group of characteristics makes me…ME. Since I learned about my top 5, I have worked to develop them and weave them together to better understand my authentic self. And so here I am with a full-time career in higher education, a part-time non-profit organization and career motivational keynote speaker under $5000 for small events and groups and under $20000 for larger events and audiences. I am also strengths coach who can bring my clients quality keynote addresses, team building workshops and training, cultural competency training or one-on-one coaching sessions to help you become your best self.

Now that you know a little bit about me, explore this web page and learn about the many ways that I can help you or your organization grow and thrive. Become a power player by understanding your top 5 strengths and working with me to develop them.
