Empowered. It may sound cliche or trite, but there is still so much work to be done in empowering ourselves and our people. The data is clear. The Hispanic population is young and increasing exponentially. Many are disenfranchised, un- and underemployed and uneducated. Empowerment is still an important need in our communities, especially for women.
Enlightened. We need to develop intellectual insight into our personal and professional selves. Then we need to share what we learn without imposition of our beliefs. Enlightenment of ourselves and others can happen simultaneously because we can always learn from those who we are trying to teach. Enlightenment can be a two-way street.
Emboldened. This is a powerful term that we do not use enough to describe ourselves and our actions. To embolden is to encourage or strengthen or to lift someone’s morale or stiffen our resolve. When we embolden ourselves and others we can make a positive difference.
Lofty as these ideals may seem, they are absolutely achievable for ourselves and our communities. This is my vision for the new year and beyond. Join me in making it happen.
