4 Ways to Make Yourself Coachable
There are many opportunities for change that will catapult us to the next level if we stay flexible. One way to get there is by getting a coach. No, not a sports coach… A life coach or career coach. Before you do that, make sure you can BE COACHABLE. What does that mean?
1. Consider the prize. What is your next step in life, in your career, in school? Why do you want what you want? Are the reasons financial? Noble? Are they about wellness or self-gratification? No importa. It doesn’t matter. The only right answer is what matters to you! Keep your eye on the prize and stay focused.
2. You all know by now how I feel about humility and if you don’t, watch my video about it (The 4 P’s to Abandoning Humility). But in this case, a little humility goes a long way because you don’t have to go at it alone and in the end we can all learn from others.
3. Keep an open mind. A coach can help you see things from a perspective that you missed, dismissed or never thought of before. Be bold and brave and step out of your comfort zone. Comfort mi gente is a 4 -letter word. The more comfortable we get, the less likely we are to grow and improve.
4. Finally, relinquish control. Give someone the reigns to guide you and help you. Why? Well, because of what I just said in #3. You don’t know everything and you don’t have to go at it alone. Undoubtedly, you already control everything about your life. If you didn’t, then who would, right? I get it. While results can never be promised, you will get out of the experience what you put into it. If you don’t let go, even a little, then what’s the point?
